Xilamuren Grassland, Hohhot

Xilamuren Grassland is located 100 kilometers north of Hohhot. Xilamuren means "yellow river" in Mongolian. It is cool even in hot summer. There are 62 Mongolian yurts, among which 30 Mongolian yurts are standard.


It is a beautiful place with pleasant climate, the blue sky and white clouds, the rolling grass, the wandering flocks and herds, the passionate herdsmen and their Mongolian food. All these things will undoubtedly leave you with a deep impression.

There are many activities. During the Nadam Festival held every summer, tourists can enjoy a series of different activities, including camel riding, horse racing, wrestling, archery, a camp fire party and singing and dancing. if you are brave you could even take part in some of the competitions that you are interested in. Dazhao Temple Hohhot

Dazhao Temple, located in Hohhot, was built first in the 6th year of the reign of Emperor Wanli of the Ming Dynasty (1578). It is the first Gelugpa Buddhism monastery built in Inner Mongolia.


Its grand scale and beautiful relics have made it one of the most renowned temples in Mongolian grassland. It is a key protected relic of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is now a well-known tourist attraction because of the impressive buildings, splendid statues, delicate frescos, musical instruments and fine collection of Buddhist scriptures.

The main architectures in Dazhao Temple are the main gate, the Heavenly King Palace, the Bodhi Palace, the Scripture Hall and the Buddha Hall. The Scripture Hall and the Buddha Hall are well connected, and so called the Grand Hall.

Five Pagodas Temple, Hohhot

Five-Pagoda Temple can be found in Hohhot. The construction of the temple began in the 5th year of the reign of the Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty.


It is 16.5 meters high and looks like a Buddha's Warrior Attendant's seat, with a base under it and five exquisite pagodas on the base. As more than 1560 relief sculptures of Buddha are engraved on the five pagodas, the temple enjoys the reputation of being "a 10000-Buddha Tower".

In addition, there are images of Bodhisattva, the four Devarajas, Buddhist Saint, Heavenly Ladies, holy birds and animal, bodhi trees and the engraved scriptures in Mongolian, Tibetan and Sanskrit on the wall of the pagodas. On the wall facing the temple there are 3 marble relief sculptures, including a planisphere marked with Mongolian inscriptions. The pagodas are not only peculiar buildings, but also a huge exquisite carving.

Zhaojun Tomb, Hohhot

Zhaojun Tomb, located on the southern bank of the Dahei River, stands nine kilometers south of the city of Hohhot. Viewed from afar, the surface of the tomb appears to be dark green. It is therefore called the “green tomb.”


Zhaojun Tomb is similar to the imperial tombs of the Han Dynasty that were built in the central plain of the kingdom. There are pavilions around the tomb in which visitors can rest. Cultural relics commemorating Zhaojun are on display in an exhibition room nearby.

In 33 B.C, Wang Zhaojun, a maid of honor in an imperial palace of the Han Dynasty, married with Huhanxie Chanyu, chief of the Xiongnus, who proposed ties of amity with the Han court through marriage. When Zhaojun married, she brought with her the rich culture of the Central China Plain to the Xiongnu people in the north.

Mausoleum of Genghis Khan, Ordos
