Best Time to Visit Sanya

Weather in Sanya is like summer all year round, pretty good for those tourists who don’t like cold winter at all. The best time to visit Sanya starts from October to the next March, sunny with less rain, avoiding the hottest time in summer and the rainy season. The weather will be really hot during summer, with strong ultraviolet rays, and since it’s summer vacation, more students and families will come to visit so that it will be crowded. By the way, from October to March is also the peak season, price for hotels and flights will be higher, you’d better book your tickets and hotels ahead of your time.

Hottest Time: July and August

Crowded Season: Late Jan. or early Feb. (Chinese Spring Festival);

                               first week of May (Labor Day);

What to Do in Sanya

Enjoy your leisure time on the beaches


With the best beaches in China, Sanya is a wonderful place for you to enjoy a leisure time on the beach. Yalong Bay, known as World’s Top Bay, owns the best beach in Sanya which stretches more than 7 kilometers, wide and flat. The white and soft sand, crystal blue sea water and dense tropical forests, make a perfect combination of sea, beach, sunshine, trees and fresh air. You may go to Dadonghai Beach as well, more commercialized but very convenient for eating and transportation.

Explore particular islands


Wuzhizhou Island is regarded as the best diving place in China, with a colorful world under the pure clear sea water, no matter the well-preserved coral reef or varieties of tropical fish. This island has a special shape looks like a butterfly and has an abundant amount of plants, it’s absolutely a paradise for diving lovers. You can take bus No.28 to the Pier, takes around 1 hour. Departure time to the island is from 8 am to 4 pm, the last ship departed from the island is 4: 30 pm. 
 

     

Nanwan Monkey Island, surrounded by the ocean on three sides, is the only natural reserve island for macaque monkeys in the world, with a thousand of macaque monkeys on the island. It’s opened from 8 am to 4:30 pm, better visit in the morning so that you could have enough time to go around the island, rather take the cableway to have a bird-eye view of the beautiful sceneries below or closely observe those clever macaque monkeys.
 


West Island, the second largest island in Hainan Province and the largest diving base in the world, is a great destination for fishing, diving and all kinds of water sports. You can take bus No. 6, 16, 21, 24, 25 from downtown area, opening time is from 8 am to 5: 30 pm.


 

Have a cultural journey in Nanshan


Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone combines a healthy coastal ecology, beautiful sceneries and rich culture. Here you can admire the tallest statue of Guanyin, experience the Buddhism culture in the Nanshan Temple and appreciate the natural beauty of mountains with the sea. Special Line of Nanshan is available to take from Yalong Bay.

Best Food to Eat in Sanya

  • Yalong Bay, with the best sea water and beach in Sanya, price for hotel is the highest among all the areas. It’s not so convenient for eating and transportation, and everything is much more expensive than in other areas.
  • Sanya Bay, the closest area to train station and airport, with the most convenient transportation conditions compared to other areas in Sanya. Price is the cheapest compared to all the other areas. By the way, Sanya Bay is the best place to watch sunrise and sunset in Sanya.
  • Haitang Bay, much quieter than in other areas, with more luxury hotels around. But it’s not so convenient for eating and transportation in this area. Price for hotels is cheaper than Yalong Bay, higher than hotels in Saya Bay and Dadonghai Beach.
  • Dadonghai Beach, cheaper, convenient for eating and transportation. Close to downtown Sanya and easily approaching to other attractions, there are also a lot of markets and restaurants around this area. But sand in Dadonghai Beach is not as soft as Yalong Bay.

How to Get to & Get around Sanya

By Airplane

It is no doubt to be the fastest and the most convenient way to get to Sanya. Sanya Phoenix International Airport, located 14 kilometers away from downtown Sanya, is one of the largest international airports in China, including airlines from Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and many other main cities in China, and also international airlines to Korea and Singapore. You may take shuttle bus, bus No. 8/No. 27 or taxi in the airport.

Transfer Tips:
 

Shuttle Bus: Line 1 to Dadonghai Beach, takes about 50 minutes, 15 yuan

                     Line 3 to Yalong Bay, takes about 1 hour, 25 yuan

Bus: Bus No. 8, from 6:00 to 23:00, 5 yuan to Dadonghai Beach and 4 yuan to downtown area

        Bus No. 27, from 7:00 to 18:30, 10 yuan to Yalong Bay

Taxi: takes about 30 minutes from the airport to the city center, around 30 yuan according to different destinations


By Train

Due to the special geography conditions around, there is only one train runs from Beijing West Railway Station to Sanya. Passing by main cities like Changsha, Guangzhou and Haikou, the whole journey takes more than 38 hours. Bullet train from Haikou to Sanya takes about 1 hour.


Getting around in Sanya

Bus: normal bus runs from 6:00 to 22:00 for 2 yuan, special line for tourism runs from 6:40 to 19:40, price varies from 10 to 20 yuan

Taxi: flexible for your time, about 15 yuan from downtown to Dadonghai Beach, 85 yuan to Yalong Bay

Car Rental: service for car rental is available inside the airport

  • Take some medicine with you for emergency use.
